You’d be surprised but as with most things online, being a top Amazon reviewer doesn’t come without risks. One Amazon reviewer reportedly gets regular hate mail, among them death threats. Yes, this should seem different that what you expected because this is NOT how the process works in most cases. Sounds like this Seller is doing it all wrong, and frankly needs to be reported to Amazon if they don’t clean up their act. Personally, I recommend writing back to them and letting them know that you will NOT up-vote another review because it goes against Amazon policy, and if they continue to ask Reviewers to do this they (the Seller) can get be removed from Amazon. Amazon is suing Reviewers for a very similar practice of fake reviews and fake votes.
To my eyes, Amazon could make its reviews more reliable in several ways. For one easy thing, it could weight reviews from verified purchases more heavily in its system — if every positive review of a product isn’t a verified purchase, while every negative review is a verified purchase, that should have a much larger impact on the displayed average score. Amazon says it’s reducing the number of unverified-purchase reviews an individual account can leave per week; this is a helpful step forward, but more can and should be done.
It can be tedious, but sorting the reviews to see the most recent, looking at dates, and actual reading the reviews can help you identify common complaints about a product (runs small, thin material, arrived slowly…).
Start reviewing big ticket items you own that are in the categories you wish to be asked to review more items. Prove to Sellers that you can write a review that helps their sales. DO NOT inflate a rating to 5-stars in the hopes that it attracts big ticket items—this is counterproductive to what our community is here to do for the customer that relies on it to make a purchase.
Although, in theory, these reviewers could write their true opinion on the product – positive or negative – these incentivized reviews have tended to be overwhelmingly biased in favor of the product being rated.
I agree with all you’ve said, but I’d add that once you’ve done THOUSANDS of reviews, you really don’t worry too much about pleasing the vendors. I feel absolutely no need to please them – if they take me off their list, good, that’s fewer emails for me to go through anyway, it’s not like someone else won’t offer me a ton of things tomorrow.
When I first started completing surveys back in 2008, I believe I received my first product test survey within 1 to 2 months and I remember it was from SurveySpot to test coffee and I was paid $150! When I did this I was hooked! I started to sign up with as many Survey Panels I could find and I’m so glad I did!

Sounds like the customer was still under the impression that discounted products meant you had to leave an incentivized review. Perhaps they just weren’t aware of it. As mentioned by others in this thread, if you didn’t break the rules I wouldn’t worry too much.
I now want to include the first email, as it doesn’t contain the same sort of errors. Which to me, says that I received a form email that has been prepared for employees to send to potential reviewers. And the reply was from the employee and was typed uniquely. Overall, that makes me feel better about it, but I still appreciate your feedback.

A lot of times it could be simple mix-ups or an employee making a mistake. I would contact them and find out whats going on before taking any more surveys. You dont want to be wasting your time for nothing.
I just bought a new (to me) book called Predictably Irrational by Dan Ariely. My purchase decision was based on its reviews. Specifically the quantity. My irrational (yet predictable) conclusion to buy the book was based on its seemingly endless number of Amazon reviews. The irony.
I’m Not A Amazon Vine Customer, But I Would Like To Be… I’ve Bought A Few Items From Amazon And Have Never Had A Bad Thing To Say As I Have Always Been Satisfied With Every Item That I Have Bought From Sellers. I Have Always Recieved My Item On Time, My Product Has Always Looked As Described And Has Never Been Damaged.. I Would Recommend Amazon To The Public… 100% From Me.
I think Amazon has answered some of your requests. Reviews that come from the Vine program are labeled at the very top of the review with the phrase “ Vine Customer Review of Free Product”. This phrase is bright green text so you can’t miss it. This blurb is automatically attached by Amazon to any Vine review.
I was so excited to receive my first request to review a product from a manufacturer. Then, I came across the line saying they expected it to be no less than four stars. I tend to be extremely honesty. If the product is worthy of 4 or 5 stars, I would give it. I’ll admit, I tend to keep 5 star reviews for extremely outstanding products. I do give them, but few products or books are perfect. Is asking for a 4 or 5 star rating consider normal and is it ethical?
I bought a F181W drone, very easy to fly. Awesome flips, very clear picture on smart phone, and a card inside for a free battery just for writing the truth about my experience. Can this be any better! But when looking for free battery web page. It showed expired in June 16 2017 But I bought this great product in Dec of 2017 how can this be. Well a deal is a deal, Hoping for someone to make this right. Would like to wright another review on how I received a free battery.
