Rather than focus on quantity of reviews, they are focused on quality. It’s no good if you’re out there on Amazon leaving one-word reviews left and right. Being a prolific reviewer is no guarantee of joining the Vine program. Amazon’s guidelines for a Vine Voice are:
Still, it’s not likely that merchants are going to stop trying to game the system. More is at stake than ever before: The National Retail Federation expects online sales to jump as much as 10 percent to $117 billion this holiday season.
Update: Amazon Review Sites can no longer require you to leave a review, but they are strongly encouraged. By having a strong Amazon Profile, you’re more likely to have sellers approve you for a discounted product.
Today, we updated the community guidelines to prohibit incentivized reviews unless they are facilitated through the Amazon Vine program. We launched Vine several years ago to carefully facilitate these kinds of reviews and have been happy with feedback from customers and vendors. Here’s how Vine works: Amazon – not the vendor or seller – identifies and invites trusted and helpful reviewers on Amazon to post opinions about new and pre-release products; we do not incentivize positive star ratings, attempt to influence the content of reviews, or even require a review to be written; and we limit the total number of Vine reviews that we display for each product. Vine has important controls in place and has proven to be especially valuable for getting early reviews on new products that have not yet been able to generate enough sales to have significant numbers of organic reviews. We also have ideas for how to continue to make Vine an even more useful program going forward. Details on that as we have them.
You could copy/paste the product description and it would let you know the % possibility that the product was shilled/confirm that it has been shilled? Hell, what if it could strip the shill reviews and re-score the product? Maybe all this could popup in a little browser plugin?
If you are selling a book, then perhaps even insert a link (or short description) on How To write a (book)review. If you have just one or two reviews, then insert the topic as a quote and just ask your customers if they agree.
Although some of these may not be big at the moment, they are growing, and before you know it, some of them may have way more products that the ones listed above. So do sign up for as many of these sites as you can. They are free anyway.
TestZon was only launched in 2016 and already shows multiple signs of being a great place to shop for nearly free. If it isn’t already, TestZon needs to be on your short list. They have products for almost every category imaginable and can test many for free including video game headsets, swim goggles, and clothing. If something isn’t free, you can find many other items for sale for only a few pennies.
You are in no way obligated to give them a ‘good’ review, as you know. My advice is to simply respond with “I would love to review this, thanks!” After you get the product, feel free to send them feedback about asking you to write a ‘good’ review. Again, in my experience, no Seller has ever responded to my critiques of their emails. Which is why I wrote a blog post on the subject of writing better emails to Reviewers.
you don’t get less products to review if you give bad reviews i should know I have reviewed over 1000 products adn I have left so many bad reviews. I have even reported people for plagerism. Products that don’t work I say they don’t work. I have given 1 star many times. your logic is faulty.
I actually came across this answer on accident so oddly enough and for the first time might I add I can answer this. 🙂…… This is assuming that the rules are the same in the UK as they are in the US, I can’t imagine why the wouldn’t be, you are allowed to contact the seller directly if you choose. If you do this everything I’ve read said to politely contact and point them to your profile as well as your enthusiasm for helping sell products with integrity and honest reviews. Last but not least sliding in a hint about your “portfolio” of previous reviews can’t hurt…😉
Choose your link text wisely – It’s normal for people to link back to your website with link text that is simply your domain name (ex: http://mywebsite.com ). You should ask them to occasionally change the link text to the keywords that you want to rank for on the search engines. For example if you want to rank for “cheap widget” then your link text should be “cheap widget”.
i have a product on amazon and it’s clear competitors have written negative reviews, to the effect of “I have never bought this product, but it’s a 1-star because xyz”. How do I get these review removed?!
That’s great they got back to you. And yes, it is getting more common for Sellers to offer less than 100%-off coupon codes. BUT! They should state this upfront, not let you find out in the cart. That is something I write back to them about and educate them on: tell Reviewers the cost upfront.
Disconcertingly, not only were a lot of the cloned products for sale on Amazon positively drowning in successive, unverified five star reviews, but perhaps an even greater proportion were tagged Verified. These reviews all shared similar word patterns and either focused on or neglected the same features, while including a staggering amount of useless user pics as well. Of course the most blatant Fake giveaway was that they were uniformly peppered with multiple exclamation points and exhortations to Just Buy It!!!
I participate in the Home Depot Seeds Reviewer program as well where you choose 5 items each month (1 of which can be a premium item) and as they randomly come up, bonus campaigns where you may be able to select a single item or multiple items depending on the individual bonus campaign. Items are shipped free to the reviewer address, and I have not come across an item yet that I had to return within the 6 month vendor recall period.
Hi there. I love your website, thanks! Anyway just wanted to let you know that some of your links aren’t working properly. For instance when I click on #3 – Pinecone Research, I’m directed to a site called, ‘Product Report Card.com’. That’s not the first time that’s happened to me while using the links you provide on your site. I hope this information is helpful to you!
The problem is that most reviewers who received discounted products have incentives to provide positive reviews so that they receive more discounted products. (Marketers don’t choose reviewers at random.) So when a customer sees a positive “honest against discounted product” review, it is impossible to tell if the reviewer is *actually* being honest or being positive just to get more discounted products. It basically defeats the whole purpose of reviews.
By enrolling in their EtekCitizen program, you can receive discounted promotions and free giveaways. EtekCitizen is broken down into four different product categories: healthy living, smart living, active living, and smart living.
Both Ooi and Tommy Noonan, founder of ReviewMeta, pointed out that I was likely seeing the extreme end of the spectrum because I was looking for cheap electronic commodities, where reviews can be make or break for would-be sellers. But ultimately, this is an effect of Amazon’s crowded marketplace. Tommy Noonan says that many sellers may be forced to turn to ginning up reviews somehow. “They’re caught in a Catch-22. You have to get reviews to sell, but to get reviews you need to sell products,” says Noonan.
